On October 22nd, 2020, just before midnight, Coalinga Police Officers attempted to stop a subject in a vehicle in the alleyway between Coolidge and Polk Street.

The man was wanted due to an earlier report that the individual had been brandishing a weapon. The man, 26-year-old Coalinga resident Edgar Cervantes, failed to stop and led officers on a short pursuit. The chase ended when Cervantes wrecked his car by colliding into a parked vehicle in the area of Longhollow and Rockview Way.
Cervantes tried to run but was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers. He had a female passenger in the car at the time. Cervantes’ passenger was taken to the hospital for complaints of pain to her neck as a result of the collision. A loaded firearm and narcotics paraphernalia were located inside the stolen vehicle.

Cervantes was arrested for charges including, Felony Evading with Injuries, Carrying a Loaded Stolen Firearm, Vehicle Theft, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possessing a Firearm While Having an Active Restraining Order, Violation of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order and Burglary. He was later transported to the Fresno County Jail.
