It was just over a year ago, on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at approx. 8:30 pm, that Coalinga police officers responded to the 300 Block of Van Ness Ave. regarding a shots fired call with suspects running from the scene.
At the scene, on Van Ness, officers found that a firearm had been used to shoot at a residence. No one was injured by the shooting, but the house was hit several times. Officers determined that one of the suspects had run in the direction of a house in the 200 block of N. Third St. At that residence officers, detained a Jose Ramos, a potential suspect in the shooting. Officers searched he back yard of the residence and located
a loaded SKS assault rifle and a short barrel shotgun with a jammed shell casing in the breech. He was taken into custody for a felon being in possession of a firearm
, resisting arrest, and probation violations. Information gained in the arrest of Ramos, led officers to arrest Ismael Hernandez later in the evening for his role in shooting at the residence. This incident has been determined to be gang related. Both Ramos and Hernandez were booked into the Coalinga City Jail for a variety of charges related to this earlier incident.
Both Coalinga Police officers and a bail bondsmen were searching for Ramos when he was arrested yesterday.
