Blevins Named Interim Chief of Police

Interim Chief of Police Appointment

The City of Coalinga’s Chief of Police, Michael Salvador, has accepted an offer from the City of Atwater to become its Police Chief. His last day of employment with the City of Coalinga will be February 20, 2019.Blevins

City Manager Marissa Trejo will be appointing the City of Coalinga’s Police Commander, Darren Blevins, as Interim Chief of Police effective February 21, 2019. As Interim Police Chief, Darren Blevins will be the Department Head for the Coalinga Police Department and he will serve in this capacity until further notice. He will be sworn in at the Coalinga City Council meeting on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 6:00pm.

Darren Blevins was hired by the City of Coalinga on September 8, 1995, as an unpaid Level II Reserve Police Officer. On January 16, 1996, he was assigned to the position of paid part-time Reserve Police Officer at a rate of $8.00 per hour. On July 1, 1996, he was moved into a full-time Police Officer position.

On October 14, 2003, Darren Blevins was promoted to the position of Police Corporal and on December 13, 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

On December 2, 2005, Darren Blevins resigned from his position as Police Sergeant to  work for another agency, but he quickly returned on March 3, 2006, recognizing that Coalinga Police Department was his home.

On April 13, 2009, Darren Blevins was assigned to work as an Acting Lieutenant and he continued serving in that capacity on and off until December 5, 2011, when he was reclassified into the Lieutenant position full time.

On May 17, 2018, Darren Blevins was reclassified into the position of Police Commander.
Darren Blevins, a 25 year resident of the City of Coalinga, is ready and committed to serving the City as its Interim Chief of Police. He and his family welcome his new role.
