Following the failure of Coalinga’s Measure C to pass in the November election last year, Mayor Nathan Vosburg contacted Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula with the city’s concerns about allowing individuals housed at the California State Hospital in Coalinga to vote.
Vosburg and the council argued that since the people in CSH are not actually part of the community that they should not be allowed to vote in local elections. While not wanting to eliminate the right to vote at all, Vosburg and the others said that those people should vote using their last address from before their relocation in the California system. This would mean their votes would reflect on an area with which they are, presumably, familiar.
