Shots Fired In Coalinga Shopping Center

UPDATE

On Thursday December 3rd approximately 6:30 PM the Coalinga Police Department investigated a
double shooting that occurred in front of State Foods Supermarket. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on a vehicle in which one of the shooters was fleeing. This subject has now been identified as 53-year-old Coalinga resident Kimble Brown who had suffered a single gunshot wound to his right inner groin area. Brown was transported via ambulance to CRMC in Fresno where he was treated for his injury and released. Brown had just moved back to Coalinga 4 days earlier.

The second shooter identified as 40-year-old Coalinga resident Jesus Barocio, was dropped off at
CRMC in Fresno by an unknown friend and was found to be suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left upper chest and collarbone. Barocio was treated for his injury and was later released from the hospital.

Both men were taken into custody at this time and they were transported to the Fresno County Jail on charges of attempted murder with an additional charge on Barocio for destroying or concealing evidence due to him discarding his firearm on his way to Fresno. Both men could be facing additional charges once the investigation is complete.

Both men gave similar statements but claimed the other person shot first. Both men admitted to firing their weapons at each other and they denied knowing each other prior to this incident. This shooting is not gang related.

At the time of the shooting the shopping center had customers going in and out of stores and driving through the parking lot and it is amazing no one else was struck by a stray bullet, Chief Blevins added.
