Press Release- Loss of a student
Yesterday afternoon, there was an incident on Highway 145 near Five Points between two cars that were shooting at each other. Sadly, one of the passengers in one of the cars has just been identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Cambridge High School Student Gregory Sanchez, who was injured and subsequently passed away at the hospital.
On behalf of the Coalinga Huron Unified School District, the Board of Trustees and I extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family on their loss.
It is not easy to lose a child, and it is even harder when they are lost to senseless violence. Please keep the family, friends, students and staff who worked with Gregory in your thoughts and prayers.
The safety and security of our students and staff is our first priority, so the school sites are taking additional security precautions. All staff have been advised of this difficult situation, and supervisors have reviewed emergency procedures. Both local police departments are providing additional patrols around our schools, and increasing their presence on our school sites. Everyone in both communities is encouraged to report unsafe or suspicious behaviors.
Let’s work together to keep our children safe.
