Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, at approximately 12:51 PM, Coalinga Police Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of North Second Street on a report of a burglary that occurred sometime during the night. During the investigation, Officers determined that forced entry was made to the home and a large flat screen television was taken along with a DVD player.

Later in the afternoon at about 5:15 PM, the victim was contacted by 22 year old suspect Benjamin Velasquez of Coalinga. Velasquez is an acquaintance of the victim and resides in the area. Velasquez confessed to burglarizing the victim’s home during the evening. Velasquez agreed to return to the victim’s home with the stolen television at which time the victim alerted police.

A short time later, responding officers located Velasquez in the area of the victim’s home after he returned the stolen television. He was taken into custody without incident. Velasquez was booked into the Coalinga City Jail for a felony charge of residential burglary.
