Press Release
From the Office of the Superintendent, Lori L. Villanueva

Today at approximately 7:40 am, a middle school student was struck by a car while in the crosswalk on Washington and Sunset Ave. District Staff was immediately on the scene and called 911. District Staff provided comfort and care to the child while waiting for the Paramedics and parents to arrive.

The child was conscious and responsive but had some injuries, so the decision was made to transport the child to Valley Children’s Hospital to be assessed and treated,  accompanied by their mother.

Unfortunately, the driver of the car was an employee of the district. The employee stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with District Officials and Police. A field sobriety test was given by Coalinga Police on arrival, and was negative. The employee properly made their statement to the police before leaving to the District Office.

The safety and security of our students and staff is our first priority. We need everyone to drive safely and to keep a close eye out for pedestrians. Please, don’t drive distracted or impaired in any way, and take special care during the times that our children are  walking to and from school.
