A group of protesters gathered last Saturday to express their concerns over the treatment of family members or friends at Pleasant Valley State Prison. The protesters allege that inmates at PVSP are being kept in “lock-down” mode which was implemented on September 28 in several prisons statewide. The initial “modified program” schedule was due to a riot in the prison, and all privileges were suspended.
The protesters claim that the prisoners have been kept in their cells all day with only one hour of access to being outdoors per week. They further allege that these men have no access to the canteen where they can purchase extra food and hygienic supplies with their own money. Classes and other activities are also allegedly suspended with mail service also minimal.
The group further claims that these individuals only get two showers per week. The prisoners are not allowed to have any visitors during this time, which has spanned all the way from September with a window of relative normalcy from January 5, 2019 to February 14. Then the modified program went back into effect.
This situation is reportedly also being mirrored in several other California State Prisons in the system. Some of these allegations have been confirmed by independent sources, but attempts to contact public information at PVSP have not been successful to date.
Research and investigation is ongoing.
Hello and to whom this may concern my name is Sionta Morris and I’m writing to you in regards to my husband who is incarcerated in chuckawalla State Prison and I have been searching all over for him to be able to take his high school or GED course which he needs in order to enroll in the college program that the prison provides but, we’re having no luck at all I searched many of schools but none of them are accredited by the Department of Education and when I came across WASC Western Association of Schools & Colleges on the internet I was wondering. Why do they assuredly let you know who’s not accredited but, will not give you any information to are on the schools that are accepted where you can mail the high school diploma / GED to the inmate letting him take the course and mail it back to you after doing so to get Graded for the course and acknowledged pertaining t0 the inmates educational skills? Knowing that the Prison institution do not allow the inmates to use the internet which is a big hindrance on the inmates to further their education and receiving educational credits. And the programs that are provided by the institution are clearly setbacks and are set up to keep one incarcerated. But, as I was informed the inmates are also free to find their own educational program if they can and want to do so. And after speaking with my husband I learned that it’s not just him there are thousands of inmates who are looking for a way out of this long-term overdue process that the institution provides when it comes to the inmates best entrance to get their GED or high school diploma! Rather it’s for a board hearing or to take the college courses that the institution provides And it’s several people that are trying to find a way to get this done and it just seemed to be no way out so if. The Government who claims that they are making positive decisions for change toand rehabilitate these inmates progress is a flat straight face lie! Tell WASC to give up some leads to any and all institutions for the rehabilitated inmates staying out of trouble and just want to go home. Give these inmates there credit & there freedom please don’t hesitate to contact thank you have a blessed day Mrs. S Morris (760)569-5238
